After Parker

Graduates of Parker attend either independent day or boarding schools, or their local public high school. No matter where they continue their education, Parker students find they are well prepared for advanced level work and new friendships: they leave Parker confident in their abilities, both intellectually and socially.

High schools, both public and independent, understand that our students come from a thoughtful educational environment. As applicants who have taken Regents level courses, written a thesis, and are confident public speakers, Parker students are seen as analytical thinkers – well prepared for whatever secondary school environment they choose.

Parker’s secondary school placement process is personalized and begins in the fall of students’ 8th grade year. There is an evening information event where recent graduates talk about the options they pursued.

For students considering independent schools:

8th graders are given practice in the SSAT through a prep course in the fall. They can opt to take the Regents Exams at the end of the school year, and we recommend that they do so. In addition, the faculty and Head advocate for our students by writing comprehensive, thoughtful recommendations and communicating closely with schools. The process ends with our graduates attending schools that are well matched to their personal goals and the next step in their educational careers.

For students considering public schools:

8th graders take the Regents Exams at the end of the school year. Parents contact the High School guidance counselor to talk about requirements and choices for courses. The Associate Director can speak to the school and give appropriate information for advanced placements.

Both students and parents are fully supported through the process of making the right decision for education after Parker. Occasionally, parents wish to explore options before 8th grade; the Head and Associate Director welcome these conversations at any time and assist all families with plans beyond Parker.
