Robert C. Parker School is an independent school for boys and girls in preschool through 8th grade, on a 77 acre campus just 10 minutes from downtown Albany and 15 minutes from Troy. We believe that successful learners are confident, caring and creative, capable of defining their own place in the world.
Our mission is to inspire students’ curiosity and passion and cultivate their purposeful action. Parker’s progressive and advanced approach to education recognizes that the joy of personal accomplishment is more motivating than a test score. The curriculum is designed around thematic project based learning, blending basic skills with high motivation. It allows a student’s natural curiosity and problemsolving abilities to emerge and blossom.
Learning experiences extend from our Discovery Center for science and the arts to our 77 acre outdoor classroom with streams, woods, pavillion, a science pod and 5K trail system, and a low ropes course, stretching opportunities for imagination and action. We build a love for science and adventure, as well as a sense of caring for the natural world.
From robotics, rockets, solar power, fuel cells, STEAM week, beekeeping and in our Science and Arts Discovery Center, Parker students get a hands on and purposeful education.
At Parker, close relationships among students and teachers cut across traditional age and grade boundaries. The culture fosters openness, empathy, mentoring, mutual respect and the confidence to embrace diversity.
All Parker students take advanced course work and engage in thesis writing, public speaking and advocacy. They graduate to excel in both public and independent high schools, and in the nation’s best colleges, having gained the skills, confidence and motivation needed to succeed throughout their lives.
